Wrinkles and hollows |
After a lifetime of accidental sun-exposure, or even just a few teenage sunburns, skin can be significantly affected. The epidermis becomes thinned, fragile, blotchy with hypo- and hyper-pigmented spots and at risk of developing pre-cancerous and cancerous lesions. The dermis loses elastin proteins, collagen structure breaks down, hyaluronic acid concentration decreases, blood vessels dilate with no support and become readily visible, skin texture can become coarse and acne prone, and of course, wrinkles form readily in areas of facial expression, and skin folds. This can be summarized as accelerated photo-aging of the skin. There is no one treatment for all the different components of sun-damaged skin. Therefore, it is imperative to seek the advice of a dermatologist, who can diagnose, and medically and surgically manage any pre-cancer and cancer lesions, and also plan and implement the treatments which are best suited to you.
