Treatment of wrinkles and hollows

Using tissue/dermal fillers:

As your skin ages, there is a natural loss of proteins, elastin, supportive fat tissue, and a chemical that assists cell production, called hyaluronic acid. This process is augmented by sun exposure and smoking.  Dermal and soft tissue fillers can fill in wrinkles of expression and grooves caused by  gravity; add volume to hollowed cheeks to help eliminate jowls and add volume to thinned or disproportionate lips.

Our dermatologists use industry-approved hyaluronic acid fillers such as Juvéderm™, Restylane® and Perlane®. Injections are made comfortable with topically applied anesthetic or nerve blocks.  Some redness and swelling may occur for one to three days, and occasionally bruising may occur. The effects last for 6 to 12 months depending on the product, the amount of product injected and the area that is enhanced.  Touch-ups are quick, and require less product if regularly maintained.

Beneifts include subtle results that leave your features and structures the same, but with softer, more youthful contours and a smoother, more relaxed appearance.

Using Botox®

                                       Before                                                    After

Many people have frown lines, crow's feet around the eyes, forehead wrinkles, radial lines around the mouth, or wrinkling around the chin.  These wrinkles are a result of repetitive use of certain muscles when smiling, frowning, concentrating, or squinting.  Botox® cosmetic is injected into or near facial muscles to soften or prevent full contraction.  The result is a relaxed facial expression that prevents deepening of these expressive lines.  Botox® is a safe, purified low molecular weight protein used in Canada for the last twenty years. The molecule blocks the nerves from firing on the adjacent muscle. The Botox® protein is broken down over three to six months, depending on the area injected.

At Kingsway Dermatology, your doctor is qualified to analyze facial anatomy and to custom plan where and how much Botox should beadministered.  The injections are gentle and may cause a slight pinching sensation; for some people, they are imperceptible.  There may be a tiny bruise, but generally, within an hour, no one will ever know you had it done.

Using Fractional Laser Technology

                   Before                                                        After

Boost your confidence and feel better with a smoother complexion.  Fractional Laser treatment consists of a series of 4-6 treatments spaced about 4 weeks apart.  The technology uses 1540nm high intensity light which passes deep into the dermis in tiny columns, resulting in controlled thermal 'wounding.'   The result is the formation of new collagen over 2 months' time to soften and plump facial wrinkles gradually over a 6-8 month period.  After each treatment there is mild swelling for 1-3 days, and redness for 3-5 days; these are treated with ice compresses and calming moisturizing lotions.  Many of our patients are going out the next day, with just some light makeup.
